This tool allows you to explore the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) codelists and their mappings to SNOMED CT codes. It includes two types: Cause and REI (risk factor, etiology, impairment, and injury).
You can also upload your own ICD-10 codelists via the link in the top right.
Select a "bundle" (GBD term for codelist) from the dropdown to view its associated ICD-10 codes. The tool then shows you the corresponding SNOMED CT codes that are mapped from those ICD-10 codes, along with statistics about coverage and usage.
The SNOMED > ICD-10 mapping files are not designed for automation or for mapping from ICD-10 to SNOMED CT. For example the SNOMED code for "Infection" might map to the ICD-10 codes "Post-operative infection". When using this in reverse, a codelist for "Surgical procedure", which might plausibly include an ICD-10 code for "Post-operative infection", would generate a SNOMED codelist incorrectly containing the SNOMED code for "Infection".
To mitigate this we map each SNOMED code back to all its ICD-10 codes, and look at the proportion of those that are also in the original bundle. In the above example, the SNOMED code for "Infection" will map to many ICD-10 codes, but only a small minority of which will appear in the original bundle (those related to surgery AND infection). It may be possible to determine a cut-off threshold to automatically exclude certain mappings, if their reverse map proportion is too low.
You can toggle between Table view (showing SNOMED codes with detailed statistics) and Hierarchy view (showing the parent-child relationships between SNOMED codes in a tree structure).
The tool supports three mapping file variants:
Changing the variant affects which SNOMED codes are shown for the same ICD-10 codes.
You can replace the built‑in GBD codelists by uploading a CSV file. The file should contain at least the following two columns:
